The earliest Shuler ancestor is John Kendrick Shuler. In 1825 he married Sarah Cornett in Grayson County, Virginia. In 1831 they moved to Morgan County, Indiana. Their grandson, George H. Shuler, married Louisa Crone in 1877 and moved to Polk County, Missouri. Descendants of George and Louisa are traced out.

John (Cuntz) Koontz (b. 1706), thought to be the son of immigrant Joseph Cuntz and Anna Gertrud Reinschmidt, was born in Germany and immigrated to Earltown, Pennsylvania, where he married Anna Elisabetha Catherine Stoever in 1738. He died after 1745. Descendants lived throughout the United States.

George Austin arrived in Charles Town, South Carolina before 1700. He was a captain in the British Royal Navy. When he retired he returned to Shropshire, England, but his wife Elizabeth and their eleven children remained in South Carolina. Cyril Ovierre Shuler, son of John Ernest Shuler and Elizabeth Rhoad, was born 18 Sep 1912, near Montmorenci, South Carolina. He married Elizabeth Caroline Smith (daughter of Emmett Preston Smith and Annie Mae Johnson, born 21 July 1910, in Utechi, Alabama) on 8 May 1938, in Auburn, Alabama. They have two children.
