Chiefly, a record of ancestors and descendants of Samuel Shy who was born August 15, 1765 in Caswell County, North Carolina. He was the son of John Shy, Sr. and Rachel. Samuel married Jane Patterson who was the daughter of Francis Patterson and Amelia Heard. Samuel and Jane had ten children. Samuel died December 14, 1830 in Georgia. Descendants lived in Georgia, North Carolina and elsewhere.

Mungers are traced to Nicholas Munger who settled in Connecticut and married Sarah Hall. He died in 1668. Descendants lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Missouri, and elsewhere. They later moved to Bath (later Highland) County, Virginia. John Davis Gray (1852-1887) was born in Monroe County, Georgia, the son of Joseph Gray (1821-1899) and Eliza Amelia Howard Gray (1831-1889). He married Sarah Cornelia Burge (1855-1892). She was born in Newton County, Georgia, the daughter of Thomas Burge (1806-1858) and Dolly Sumner Lunt Burge (1817-1891). John Davis and Sarah Cornelia Burge Gray died at Hawhorne, Florida.

Edward Neal was born around 1735 in Virginia. He married Sarah. They moved to Kentucky. It is possible that Edward also married Nancy Gibson. His children included Edward, William, John, Mary or Polly, Benjamin, Charles, Thomas, Moses, Sally and Nancy. Edward died in Kentucky in 1815. Other localities include South Carolina, Oregon, Illinois and Florida. .

Stephen Goggin was born in 1697 in Limerick, Ireland. He married Mary Pinchin in 1715. They probably had eight children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri and California. The author hoped to find a connection to Mark Twain, whose family lived near Goggin Mountain in Missouri, but was not able to find any.
