Thomas Skidmore (1605-1684) was born in Mayshill, Westerleigh, Gloucestershire, England, son of Richard and Agnes Lawrence Skydmore. Thomas eventually settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts and also lived in Connecticut and New York. He died in Fairfield, Connecticut. Andrew Ballantyne Beamer was born 20 October 1821 in Monroe County, Virginia. He married Rebecca Jane Ervin 17 April 1845 in Greenbrier, Virginia. They had fourteen children. Andrew died 8 April 1904 in Newville, West Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia and West Virginia.

A new school building was constructed in 1929-30. The school was in operation through 1964 when the last high school class graduated. A new school district was formed in 1964 by the consolidation of Maitland, Graham and Skidmore. The junior high school and grades five and six of the Nodaway-Holt R-VII District are now located in Skidmore.

John Root was born in about 1774 in Schnedes, Germany. He married Barbara Lane in about 1794 in Virginia. They had twelve children. He married Louisa Barbara Hussong in 1838 in Montgomery County, Ohio. They had one child. He died in about 1846 in Miami County, Ohio. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ohio, Indiana and Oklahoma.
