Mathew Smart, Sr. and Mathew Smart, Jr. both were born in Virginia. Mathew, Jr.'s son was James Smart (b.1714). He was the father of eight children. His children moved to North Carolina and, later, South Carolina. Descendants served in the Conferacy during the Civil War and remained in the North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama after the war.

Thomas Smart was likely born 8 April 1786 in North Carolina. He was a descendant of William Smart Jr. (b. 1743) and Jane Huddleston of North Carolina. Thomas married Elizabeth Baldridge 28 September 1811. Elizabeth died and Thomas married Margaret Flemming ca. 1822 in Rutherford Co., North Carolina. They later moved to McMinn Co., Tennessee. Thomas was the father of nine children. Descendants lived in North Carolina, Tennessee and elsewhere.

Francis Buckwalter (ca.1665-1723) emigrated from Switzerland to Germany in 1710, and later immigrated to Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1720. John Edwin Buckwalter Sr. (1834-1870), a direct descendant and a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, moved to American Fork, Utah and married Susan Morris in 1863. Descendants of John Edwin lived in Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon and elsewhere.

Maurine Smith Smart was born on May 12, 1918 in Bancroft, Idaho. She was the daughter of Isaac Homer Smith and Elizabeth Call. Maurine married Max Swenson Smart, son of Frederick Samual Smart and Edna Bertha Swenson, on June 18, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Max was born on April 22, 1912 in Spanish Fork, Utah and died on February 5, 2012 in Boise, Idaho. Maurine died on March 18, 2011 in Meridian, Idaho.

Winthrop Smart was born at Newmarket, New Hampshire about 1740. He was a son of Joseph Smart of Exeter, N.H. John Newman Barker (1827-1909) was the son of Alfred Great Barker and Ann Morris Barker. In 1849, he married Mary Ann Maria Smart. They had 14 children. In 1857, he married Frances Camelia Adams, who had been married to William Harrison Sagers in 1852. They had 5 children. They lived in Willard, Utah.
