Johannes Joseph Spaniol (1834-1912) married Magdalena Schaefer in 1859, and in 1882 the family immigrated from Germany to St. Joseph, Minnesota, moving to Stayton, Oregon in 1890. Descendants and relatives (includes other immigrants and their progeny) lived in Minnesota, Oregon, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Maryland and elsewhere. Gertrud Kiefer Spaniol Fehr (d.1849) was the daughter of Michael Kiefer and Maria Elizabetha Koch of Buschfeld in Landkreis Saar Louis von Stadt Schlmelz, Saarland, Germany. Four of her children emigrated to northern Illinois shortly after her death. Her fifth child, Johannetta and her husband Peter Klaeser/Glasier did not emigrate until in 1873.
