Mary Melissa Sparks was probably born in Iowa. Her parents were James Andrew Sparks and Nancy Ann Heaton. Her family moved to Kansas in 1879. She married Samuel Clarke 13 August 1881 in Leesburgh, Kansas. They had three children. They moved to Oklahoma in the 1890s.
