Three major groups of Pences (some with surnames anglicized from Bentz) settled in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley in the 1740s, after having lived for a time in Pennsylvania. These volumes trace the descendants of Jacob, Lewis, Henry, and Valentine Pence, many of whom lived in Virginia, Ohio and Indiana, while others have spread throughout the United States.
