Description
Isaac J. Stamper enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 in Sweetwater, Tennessee and was asigned to the 43rd Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers. Members of the regiment eventually served in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and even Maryland. He fought in the battles of Vicksburg and Knoxville, as well as a number of smaller skirmishes. He surrendered in May 1865 in North Carolina and was paroled.

Chiefly, a record of some ancestors of Joel Stamper who was born in 1804 in North Carolina. Joel was the son of Joel Sr. (1788-1843) and Polly Stamper. Joel married Mary Polly Turner probably in Kentucky. They resided in Breathitt County, Kentucky. Joel died in 1891. .

Robert Kindleside was born in 1714 in Westmoreland. He married Frances Furnass (1717-1799) in about 1739. They had at least five children. Robert died in 1752 in Knock, Westmoreland. Frances had two more children after his death who went by his name. Descendants and relatives lived in Westmoreland, Cumberland, Durham, Kent, London and elsewhere.

Powell Stamper (ca. 1685-1727) was born in Middlesex County, Virginia, the son of John Stamper. He married Mary Brooks (1687-1727), daughter of Jonathan and Sarah Brooks, in Middlesex County, in 1708. They had six children, 1712-1725. The ancestors of the Gibbs family migrated from Normandy to England during the time of William the Conquerer. The earliest tracable ancestor was Adonit de Guibe (ca. 1221) whose two sons settled in Warwick. One of their numerous descendants was John Gibbs who settled in Virginia in the mid-1600s. Other branches of the family settled in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Jersey. Numerous descendants live throughout the United States.
