Moses Stegall (b. ca. 1735, d. 1840), who died in Anson County, North Carolina is the first known ancestor of certainty. He had at least eleven children. One son, Solomon, born 1768 probably in Jamestown, Virginia, moved to Giles County, Tennessee, and around 1825 was found living in Monroe County Mississippi. Description
The ancestors of Jesse Fish immigrated to the United States from England. His grandfather settled in colonial North Carolina with his wife and several children, one of whom was Thomas Fish, the author's father. Thomas was apprenticed after both his parents died. After he was liberated at age 18, he fought in the Revolution. He married Winafred Byrne ca. 1780. They moved into Kentucky, settling in what is now Laurel County.

A descendant, William Henry Rackley (1846-1885) was born in Blount County, Alabama and died in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. Jacob Dudt was born in August, 1858 in Gottesheim, Bas Rhin, Alsace, France. His father was Jacques Dudt (b. 1830) and his grandfather was Jean Dudt (b. 1796). He immigrated to America in 1881 and settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Apfel (1868-1897) in 1891 and Carolina Bohn in 1898.
