Benjamin Williams Grimes was born 20 May 1846 in Hawridge, Alabama. He was the son of Henry B. Grimes and Harriet Hildreth Grimes. Benjamin fought in the Civil War when he was sixteen. He married three times and was the father of eight children. Descendants lived primarily in Texas and elsewhere.

John Edward Nite was born 12 August 1805 in North Carolina. On 29 May 1826 he married Lucy Stepp, born 10 April 1807 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. Seven children were born of this union. John died 25 August 1849 and Lucy on 3 August 1865.
