Chiefly a record of some of the descendants of Johan Christian Harshall. He was born ca. 1700 probably in Germany. He immigrated to America before 1729. He married Eleanor Rüdig. After she died he remarried to Elizabeth. He died in 1769 in Readington, New Jersey. He and Eleanor were the parents of three children. Descendants lived in New Jersey, New York, and elsewhere.

Jan/John Van Cleef (b.ca.1627/1628) immigrated from Amsterdam in The Netherlands to Gravesend, Long Island, New York in 1653, and married Engeltjew Louwerens in 1661. They moved in 1662 to Utrecht, Long Island, New York, and he died after 1698. Descendants and relatives lived in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, Kansas, Iowa and elsewhere.

Christoffel Hooghlandt (1634-1684) was born at Haarlem, Holland, the son of Dircksz Hooghlandt and Jannetje Denoot. He married Catrina Creiger (1645-ca. 1713) in 1661 at New Amsterdam. They had eight children, 1662-1681. He died in New Amsterdam. Descendants listed lived in New York, New Jersey and elsewhere. Most descendants of later generation spelled their surname Hoagland.

Lee Harrison Owen and Elisa Brimberry were married in Illinois in 1833. Lee came from North Carolina. In 1834 he took a wagon train of settlers to Texas where he and his family settled. He was involved in the annexation of Texas from Mexico. They had nine children and the descendants of these children are the subjects of this book.
