Samuel Sturgeon was born in Ireland about 1680. He and his family immigrated to America in 1730, settling in Pennsylvania. John Milam was born in Virginia in 1725. Descendants of both families are traced.

Description
John Stogdell emigrated from England to Essex County, Virginia, ca. 1660. His fourth-generation descendant John Stodghill was the first to change his surname spelling to Sturgill. He married Elizabeth Harvey daughter of John Harvey about 1760 and settled in Greenbrier County, Virginia. Other descendants have spelled the name Sturgeon.

John Harper Houk was born about 1813 and died about 1876. His parents were George and Susannah Harper Houk. John married Malinda Fletcher Alderson (1814-1907) in 1832 in Hart County, Kentucky. Contains family group sheets on some of their descendants. Descendants lived in Kentucky, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma and elsewhere in the United States.

John Fry (d.1820/1827) lived in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania in 1775, served in the Revolutionary War, and moved by 1810 to Fayette County, Pennsylvania. By 1811, the family moved to Licking County, Ohio. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and elsewhere. Some descendants became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved to Utah, Idaho, Nevada, California and elsewhere.

He married Ingre Mary Gatherum (1895-1876), daughter of Andrew Watson Gatherum (1871-1946) and Rozella Peterson (1875-1933), in 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Scotland, England, Germany, Sweden, Ohio, New York, Delaware, Kentucky, Ohio and Utah.
