Margaret Lawrence was born in England about 1710. She was charged with thievery in London and transported to the colonies bond as a bonds-woman for 14 years. Her contract was bought by Tobias Phillips and she worked as a domestic servant on one of his Virginia plantations. She also bore him two illegitimate sons. Absolom Littell, a descendant of John Littell (ca. 1646-1713) of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was born in Sussex County, Delaware, in 1751, the son of Absolom and Esther Pettyjohn Littell. He married Mary Norris, daughter of William and Ann Norris in 1783 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. They had seven children, 1784-1797, all born in Fayette County.
