Description
Mary Thorborough Turner, daughter of Walter Thornborough and Margaret, married Robert Turner in about 1765 in Bethania, North Carolina. They had ten children. He was imprisoned in 1776 for being a Loyalist. He escaped and never returned home. He is believed to have died in about 1778. Mary took her family and moved to Tennessee.

Thomas Thornbury immigrated to Virginia from England in 1616. Alice Lane arrived in 1620. They were married in 1625. The number of their children is not known, but they are assumed to be the ancestors of many people whose surnames are variants of "Thornbury," such as Thornburg, Thornberry, Thornborough, Thornebury, etc.

Robert Turner arrived in Bethania, North Carolina in about 1756. He married Mary Thornborough, daughter of Walter and Margaret Thornborough. in about 1765. They had ten children. He was a Loyalist during the American Revolution. He was imprisoned in 1776. He later escaped and is believed to have died in about 1778.

Edward Thornbrough, a Quaker and a son of Robert Thornbrough and Sarah Jackson, immigrated from Ireland to the Kenntt Monthly Meeting in Pennsylvania. John Thornsberry (b.1821), direct descendant in the fifth generation, moved from North Carolina to Miller County, Missouri and married Martha Ann Perkins in 1847. Descendants and relatives of Edward lived in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Arizona, California and elsewhere.
