George Tilley (1697-1761) was probably born in Ideford, Devon, England and married Elizabeth Galpin (1706-1736) in 1727 in Newbury, Massachusetts and (2) Mary. He is buried in Boston, Massachusetts. Descendants lived in Massachusetts, New York, and elsewhere.

James Sweet, son of John Sweet, was born in 1622 in Hackney, England. His family emigrated in 1630. He married Mary Green in 1645 in Warwick, Rhode Island. They had nine children. He died in 1698. Descendant Byron Luther Sweet was born in 1874 in Petersburgh, New York. He married Grace Luella Tilley (1891-1969), daughter of Merritt Tilley and Caroline Snyder, in 1907 in Berlin, New York. In September of 1620 Richard Warren, John Howland, John and Joan Tilley and their daughter Elizabeth, Edward Fuller and wife and their son Samuel, embarked on the Mayflower in Plymouth, England and began their passage to Plymouth, Massachusetts. These individuals are ancestors of Nora Woodworth Townsend, the author's grandmother.

He married Sylvia Cutler (1776-1858), daughter of Amos Cutler and Lucy Green, in 1800 in Boston. They had nine children, 1802-1817.
