John Tinsley emigrated to the United States in 1792 from Ireland. He is the patriarch of the Tinsley families of Newberry, South Carolina; Georgia; Mississippi; Louisiana and Texas. His wife's name was Margaret (Burton?) and they had two sons, Arthur and Jonathan. John possibly died 11th of October, 1812 in Newberry.

Samuel E. Ayers was born 15 April 1863 in Kittanning, Armstrong, Pennsylvania. His parents were Samuel Ayers (1830-1900) and Catharine. He married Jessie Laura Black (1874-1925), daughter of William Alvin Black (1845-1904) and Margaret A. Brown (1849-1924), 14 January 1890 in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They had fourteen children.
