John Lipscomb Johnson grew up on a Virginia plantation and later served as a teacher, Baptist minister, leader, and speaker, and father. He was born in Virginia in 1835, served in the Civil War as a chaplin, and in 1860 he married Julia Toy. They had eight children and this autobiographical sketch was written in response to a request from his grandson in 1910. Includes Johnson, Toy, Harris, Lipsey, and related families.

Lester Farrell Kelch was born 2 June 1899 in Columbia, Missouri. His parents were Benjamin Franklin Kelch and Mary Josephine Hill. He married Mildred Ruth Steinle, daughter of Frank Steinle and Ella Vera Jenkins, 2 June 1926 in Girard, Pennsylvania. They had a son and a daughter. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Massachusetts and elsewhere.
