Martin Aeschlimann, Sr. (1748-1808) emigrated from Switzerland to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and married Elizabeth Groff in 1765. He anglicized his surname to Eschleman or Eshleman, and later descendants spelled then surname Eshelman.
