Homer Deeter Cassel was born 7 March 1895 in Dayton, Ohio. His parents were William Henry Cassel and Callie Caroline Vianna. He married Opal Gilbert Cassel (1892-1951) in 1922. They had three children. He died in 1980. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Germany.

William Heun (1820-1891) married Marie Bock in 1847 in the parish of Lahr, Germany. They emigrated in 1866 with eleven children; six children and the mother died on the voyage. William and the five sons lived in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, then in Shell Creek Station, Nebraska, when the town of Heun was founded. William married Mary B. Iler and had two children. William's brother, John, followed him to Wisconsin in 1869.

Joseph Oyer (1814-1866) was probably the son of John Oyer from Alsace Lorraine, France. He emigrated to the area now known as Tazewell and Woodford Counties, IL. He married (1) Miss Augsburger? and (2) Magdalena Litwiller?. Nine children were born to the first marriage and six to the second. They settled at Wesley City, IL.
