The legend of House Springs is based on the history of the Adam House family which settled in Missouri when it was still Spanish territory. Adam House was a Revolutionary War veteran who moved from Virginia in 1789 to obtain a Spanish land grant in what is now Missouri. He and his wife, Anna, had seven children.
