Lee County was formed from Moore and Chatham Counties by an act effective April 1, 1908. It was named for Robert E. Lee. Sanford is the county seat.

John Alexander Kennedy, son of John Kennedy and mother not listed, was born about 1738 in Ireland. He immigrated to America where he married an unknown woman in Philadelphia. She died without children. John married Mary (Tanday) Thomas and they had 5 children. Mary died before Nov 1780 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. John married (Elender?)
