Description
The Superior Court of Law was established in 1808 and replaced in 1831 by the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery. This latter court may also have been known as the Superior Court of Law and Chancery. In 1851, it was replaced by the Circuit Court.
Common law is the body of law developed primarily from judicial decisions based on custom and precedent, unwritten in statute or code.

The Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery was established in 1831. It was sometimes known as the Superior Court of Law and Chancery. In 1851 it was replaced by the Circuit Court.

Northampton County was originally established in 1634 under the name of Accawmac which has been transliterated in this book as Accowmacke. In 1642-1643 the name was changed to Northampton. Accomack County was created in 1663 from Northampton County.
Although this was not originally published as part of the set, the editor (Howard Mackey) of Northhampton County, Virginia record book considers it v. 2 of his set.

These bonds were paid by individuals appointed by the Circuit Court to be special commissioners. A bond is a legal document wherein a person commits himself, his heirs, executors and administrators to pay a required amount of money to another if certain duties are not performed.
