The Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery was established in 1831 and replaced in 1850 by the Circuit Court.
For these cases the court sat in chancery which meant it acted as a court of equity. Northampton County was originally established in 1634 under the name of Accawmac which has been transliterated in this book as Accowmacke. In 1642-1643 the name was changed to Northampton. Accomack County was created in 1663 from Northampton County.
Although this was not originally published as part of the set, the editor (Howard Mackey) of Northhampton County, Virginia record book considers it v. 2 of his set.
