The Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery was established in 1831 and replaced in 1851 by the Circuit Court.
For these cases the court sat in chancery which meant it acted as a court of equity. Description
The District Court was established in 1789 and was sometimes called the Superior Court. It was abolished in 1808 and replaced by the Superior Court of Law for Spotsylvania County. The Superior Court of Law existed until 1831 when it was replaced by the Circuit Superior Court of Law and Chancery for Spotsylvania County.
