This meeting was established in 1814 by the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting; in 1828 it did not switch to Hicksite. In 1955 it merged with the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting (Hicksite) to become the Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting.

The first Friends' Meeting was held at Shackamaxon in Kensington District in 1681, but the city grew in another place and the meeting house was closed.
