Joseph Vail settled in Pennsylvania after the Revolutionary War. His sons, John and Soloman, lived in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and moved to Ohio. Ephriam (1798-1872), son of John, married Elizabeth Pettit in 1821 and lived in Crawford County, Ohio. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and elsewhere.
