John Briggs was living at Newport, Rhode Island, in 1638, when he was admitted a freeman. In his will, written and probated in 1690, he named five sons and a daughter. Descendants listed, chiefly descendants of his descendant of the fifth generation, Walter Briggs (1701-ca. 1783) of Westchester, New York, lived in Rhode Island, New York, and elsewhere.

William Albert Valentine was born 13 January 1860 in Village Creek, Iowa. His parents were Job Valentine and Lucy Petrey. He married Gertrude Cowles (1867-1950), daughter Almeron Orlando Cowles and Thankful Electra Foster, in 1886 in Rochester, Minnesota. They had eight children. He died in 1929 in White, South Dakota.

Robert Bedell (1610-1698) was born in England and immigrated to America. He settled in Hempstead, New York where he raised a family of seven children. James Lister (1814-1898) was born in County Fife, Scotland. He immigrated to the United States in 1841 and settled at Galena, Illinois. He married Mary Eakins (ca. 1816-1884), a native of Ireland and the daughter of John and Jane Eakins, on 1847 in Jo Daviees County, Illinois. They had five children, 1849-1857.
