Pieter van Stoutenburg (1613-1698/1699) immigrated from Holland to New Amsterdam, New York and married Aeeje van Tienhoven in 1649. Jacobus Stoutenburg (b.1696), a direct descendant, was the first settler at Hyde Park, New York, and the family were subsequently neighbors and friends of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt family. Judah Paddock Spencer (1748-1807), son of Thomas Spooner and Rebecca Paddock, married Deborah Douglas (1753-1823) at New London, Connecticut in 1770. He died in Rutland, Vermont. Deborah died in Wainscott, New York. Descendants lived in New York, Vermont, Michigan, Massachusetts, California, Illinois, and elsewhere.

Jacobus Van Auken (1734-1812) married Elizabeth Van Venschoten (Van Bunschoten) in 1759 at Machackemeck, Orange County, New York. Descendants (chiefly spelling the surname Van Akin) and relatives lived in New York, New England, Michigan and elsewhere. Includes some brief biographical notes made in January 1892 by William Henry Harrison Van Akin, who had moved from Phelps, Ontario County, New York to Hudson, Lenawee County, Michigan.
