W. G. Couwenhoven (of Van Doren line) immigrated from The Netherlands to New Utrecht, Long Island, New Netherland (later New York) in 1630. Jacob Van Doren (1654-1720) was born at or near Gowanus, Long Island, New York, and married Maria Bennett in 1690. In 1697 they moved to Monmouth County, New Jersey. Descendants and relatives lived in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Illinois,\ Kansas, Mew Mexico and elsewhere.
