William Sanders was born in 1760 in Carteret County, North Carolina. His parents were Phillip Sanders and Sophia Austin. He married Patience Benthall (b.1765), daughter of Reuben Benthall and Sarah Wade, in about 1782. They had eleven children. He died in 1853 in Jefferson County, Alabama.
