After graduating from Cambridge Unversity, he accepted a position of chalpain of the estate of Sir William Masham of Oseso. There he met and married Mary Barnard. Thomas Dustin or Durston (ca.1606-ca.1662) emigrated from England to Richmond island near Casco Bay, Maine. He married Elizabeth Wheeler before 1648 in New Hampshire, and settled in Kittery, Maine by 1650. George Waterman (1793-1850) and Patience Brownell (1794-1823) were married in 1813. They had four children, 1813-1821. He married 2) Britannia F. Baxter (1808-1895) in 1823. They had twelve children, 1825-1848. He died on the Mukelumnes River, California. She married 2) Rev. William H. Patt at Warren, Rhode Island, in 1867.

Description
Thomas Waterman, of some military note, left Wales and settled in Norwich, England, and was honored with a Coat of Arms in 1636. In the same year, his sons, Robert and Thomas, came to Plymouth, Massachusetts. So they were not Pilgrims, nor among the Puritan settlers of Massachusetts Bay, but simply immigrants. Thomas (the son) settled in Roxbury in 1641, and died in 1676 leaving a son Thomas.

Samuel Gardner (d.1696) moved in 1687/1688 from Newport, Rhode Island to Freetown (now Swansea), Massachusetts. Henry Wood Gardner (1821- 1888), direct descendant in the sixth generation, married Mary Brown in 1846, and moved from Killingly, Connecticut to Providence, Rhode Island. Leander Alfred Dole was born in Maine in 1892. He married Mary Dresser in 1919 and they had five children. He died in Maine in 1945 in a hunting accident. Information on their descendants and their ancestry is included in this volume. Descendants have remained in Maine with some moving to the midwest.
