John Waters and his wife, ______Messer, were married in Cumberland County, North Carolina, ca. 1764. The had eight children, at least the first two probably born in Screven County, Georgia. Abel Waters, son of Nathaniel and Mary Waters, was born 25 January 1749 in Sutton Massachusetts. He married Sara Learned Davis, daughter of Elijah and Dorothy Moore, 15 January 1783. They subsequently settled in Charlton, Massachusetts. They were the parents of five children. Abel died 7 February 1829 in Augusta, Maine.

The Waterhouse family is of Norman origin. Jacob Waterhouse (1605-1676) descended from Sir Gilbert Waterhouse (ca. 1200), Knight of Kriton in Lincolnshire, England. Jacob sailed to America in 1635 and settled in Wethersfield, Connecticut. He was the father of eight children. His numerous descendants going by the names of Waterhouse, Waters and Watrous live throughout the United States.
