The immigrant ancestor was George Haworth (d.1724), son of James and Isabel Haworth, who immigrated from England to Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1699, and married Mary Scarbro in 1710. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and elsewhere.

Henry Watson, Jr., was born in East Windsor Hills, Connecticut, in 1810, the son of Henry and Julia Reed Watson. He moved to Greensboro, Alabama, in 1834, where he was a lawyer and cotton planter. He married Sophia Peck, daughter of Frederick Peck in 1845. They had six children. The family moved to Northampton, Massachusetts, in 1860, and for a number of years spent their winters in Greensboro and summers in Northampton. He died in 1891.
