William Watts, Sr. was born about 1786 in either North Carolina or Tennessee, moved to North Carolina, Mississippi, to Louisiana and finally back to Mississippi. Many of the descendants stayed in Louisiana.

Edward Watts (ca. 1675-ca. 1750) of Spotsylvania County, Virginia, received a grant for 900 acres of land in St. Georges Parish in 1728. He was probably the father of at least six sons born ca. 1698-1710. Descendants listed lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri and elsewhere.
