Johannes Hertzler was born in Swwitzerland. In 1870 he brought his wife, three sons, and his father to America settling in Pennsylvania. Christian Martin, born in 1669 in Switzerland, immigrated with his wife, Ells, and their two daughters to the Palatinate in Germany. Their four sons preceded them to Germany and then to Pennsylvania. The family was reunited in 1731 in Weaverland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This work traces their descendants through seven generations to Clement W. Martin and his descendants.

The first Reiff families were found in Franconia districts of eastern Pennsylvania. They later spread to Lancaster, Lebanon, York and Cumberland. They later moved to Maryland, Ontario, Canada, Virginia and on to Ohio and West. Abraham Reiff married Barbara Groff. He was the son of a deacon also named Abraham. Abraham died in 1763. He and Barbara had eleven children.
