"In 1918 approximately 200,000 acres of land were withdrawn from the northwest corner of the Porcupine Forest Reserve and allotted to the Soldier Settlement Board to be used for the purpose of encouraging and settling Canadian ex-service men--and women--on the land."--p. 7. In 1858 Henry Weekes and his wife Eliza Morgan sailed from Liverpool to Melbourne, Australia. They were the parents of nine children. As a family, they were very interested in education. Five of Henry and Eliza Weekes' children eventually became teachers in Australia and ultimately there were sixteen teachers among the Weekes descendants. It has been said of the Weekes family that they loved to teach.
