Ancestors of William Whipple who was born 1730/1731 and died 1785 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He married Catherine Moffatt (1734-1821). They had seven children, all of whom died in infancy. William was a Brigadier General at the Battle of Bugoyne and was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

John Whipple (1596-1669), son of Matthew Whipple, immigrated from England to Ipswich, Massachusetts and married twice. Descendants lived in New England, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and elsewhere.

William Whipple, son of John Whipple and Sarah, was christened 16 May 1652. He married Mary in about 1688. They had three children. He died 9 March 1711/1712 in Lime Rock, Rhode Island. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Rhode Island, Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas.
