Alfred Andrew Ames, Sr., was born about 1829 in Wilson County, Tennessee. The identity of his parents is uncertain. He was in Rusk (now Gregg) County, Texas, by 24 December 1855, when he married Catharine Wallace. They had four sons. Descendants live all over the United States.

Raymond Harrell Wilkins was born 28 September 1917 at Portsmouth, Virginia, the son of William Samuel and Florida Alverta Harrell Wilkins. He moved to Columbia, North Carolina, with his family, ca. 1921. He served as a major in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was killed in action at Rabaul, New Britain, in 1943. He received a congressional medal of honor.
