The Van Winkle ancestor, Jacob Walichs was one of the early settlers of New Amsterdam sometime before 1630. He married Tryntje Jacobs about 1642 and in 1654, moved to Pavonia, New Jersey. He died in 1657.

Clark McCue Leonard was born in California in 1935. He married Locklenna Brown Carter and they had three children. Information he collected on his ancestral lines is included in this volume tracing them to Germany by way of Pennsylvania, Luxembourg, Chechoslavia, and Ireland.
