David French, the son of Samuel and Mary Beardlee French, acquired land in Hopkinton and Potsdam, New York, in 1803, after living in Vermont and Connecticut. He married Sally Tupper in 1804 and settled in South Potsdam with her in March 1805. Several generations of descendants have lived on the French family farm.
