Esther Morton Smith (1865-1942) was the third of six children born to Benjamin Rapier Smith (1825-1904) and Esther Fisher Wharton (1836-1915). Esther's grandparents were Daniel B. William and Edward Bethell were living in Virginia about 1750. Both died before 1760. They may have been brothers but this is unknown. Information concerning many of their descendants some of whom favored Quaker beliefs and settled later in Pennsylvania are included in this volume.
