William Berczy, 1744-1813, was born in Wallestein, Saxony, Germany and was in Québec City from July 1808 to 1809, where he completed a painting "The Woolsey family;" he died in New York. The painting was commissioned by John William Woolsey, 1767-1852, who had married Julie Lemoine Despins; it contains John William Woolsey, his wife, his mother, his five children and a dog.
