Chiefly, a record of the migration of the Orange County, Virginia Wootens from 1734 through different states to their location in 1980. Some Wooten descendants are also included from Warwick County, 1638-1704. The first ancestor listed is Richard Wooton who was born 1614 and died in 1696. His wife was Francis Albridgton Wooton (with no dates).

The subject of this study is the extended family of Thomas Wooton who in 1793 made his will in Surry County, N. C. and who was ancestor of a multitude of descendants now scattered widely across the United States. The period covered begins in 1735 in Orange Co., Va. and ends with the US census of 1820.

John Gilmore was born in Ulster, Ireland, He married Margaret Thompson. Their son, Theomas Gilmore, married Marian Sterling in 1702 in Ulster. They had five children. He died in 1759 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.

Wooton (1835-1907), son of Quakers Lewis Wooton and Martha Puckett, moved from Preble County, Ohio to Grant County, Indiana, married Theodocia Stratton in 1862, and after various moves (to Indiana, New York, Alabama, Illinois, Iowa) settled at Denver, Colorado. Descendants lived in Ohio, Indiana, Colorado and elsewhere. Ancestors lived in Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina and elsewhere.

Ann Fellows was born in 1853 in Bloxwich, England, to George and Frances (Goodwin) Fellows. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1866 and settled in Iowa. Her mother died in 1872. The family later moved to Utah. Ann never married and died in 1921 in Provo, Utah.

Description
Thomas Watton or Wotton (1612-1670) immigrated from England to James City County, Virginia in 1639, and later settled in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He was probably the son of Thomas and Jane Watton of Castor (near Peterborough, Northampton County), England. Descendants and relatives lived in Virginia, North Carolina and elsewhere. The author recites and then discounts the story that Thomas was the surgeon in the original Jamestown colony.

Peter Begley, son of Hugh Begley and Anne Chauntrell, was born 1608 in Siddington, England. He immigrated to Virginia in 1635. No wife is listed, however he had 5 children. Peter died in June 1665 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. His descendants have lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, and other areas in the United States.

Charles Wooton (1770/1773-1860/1870) moved from Virginia to North Carolina (probably Onslow County), and married Sarah Davis about 1790. They moved to Wooton, Clay County, Kentucky in 1807. He later left Sarah, moved "north" and west eventually to Wilson County, Kansas, and had another wife, Fannie Smith (9 children by Sarah and 11 by Fannie). Descendants and relatives lived in North Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, Kansas and elsewhere.
