John Elam Carter (1856-1945) moved from Indiana to Eskridge, Kansas and was married (1) in 1881 to Anna Simerwell (ca.1859-1883) and (2) in 1885 to Emily Samantha Parker (1865-1960), with surviving progeny only by his second wife. Descendants lived in Kansas, Minnesota, Colorado, Washington, California and elsewhere.

Alice Stubbe (1585-1656), daughter of Richard Stubbe, married Harmon Le Strange of Hunstanton. They had eight children.
