John Beard and his two sons emigrated from Teignmouth, Devonshire, England, and settled on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, ca. 1710. His grandson, Richard Beard, Jr. was born in 1718 at Nantucket. He married 1882 Mary Lucretia Taylor (1867-1921), daughter of Capt. B.F. Taylor of Snowball, Searcy Co., Ark. They had thirteen children born in Arkansas and Missouri.
