Description
Andrew Zumwalt arrived in America in 1737, settling first in Pennsylvania then Frederick County, Virginia where he died in 1764. John Braley left Ireland about 1752, sailed to Philadelphia and settled in North Carolina where he died in 1798. Descendants of both families settled in Tennessee, Missouri, California, Texas, Virginia, Kentucky and elsewhere.

Andrew Zumwalt was born at Strassburg, Alsace-Lorraine, in 1698. He is said to be the son of Adam Zumwalt. He immigrated to America in 1737 and settled first in Pennsylvania then moved to Frederick Virginia. He married twice. He and his first wife, Mary, had five children; he and his second wife, Ann Regina, had six children. He died in Frederick County in 1764. Descendants lived in Missouri, Illinois, California, Kentucky and elsewhere.

In 1737 Andrew and his brother, Balthazar, immigrated to America and settled first in Baltimore, Maryland and later in Pennsylvania. William Crittenden Calvert was born 6 January 1860 in Clark County, Missouri. His parents were Thomas Jefferson Calvert (1816-1880) and Mahulda Zumwalt (1818-1885). He married Melvina Ursula Sherman (1860-1957), daughter of Levi Sherman (1820-1908) and Nancy Lowry (1833-1899) in 1881. They had seven children. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Missouri, Ohio, Rhode Island, Virginia and Maryland.

Jacob Zumwalt ((ca.1752-1820) married widow Catherine (Queti) Miller and settled at (and built) fort Zumwalt near O'Fallon, Missouri. Abraham Durst (d.1772) was a possible son of Abraham Durst the emigrant who came to Philadelphia in 1743 and settled at Reading Borough, Berks Co., Pennsylvania in 1790.
