James Ira Jones was born 18 October 1878 in Boone County, Indiana. His parents were James William Jones (1848-1936) and Margaret Ellen Slain (1848-1921). He married Minnie Rozella Sparrow (1885-1981), daughter of Alfred Sparrow and Hannah Bannon, 28 November 1906 in Lebanon, Indiana. They had six children. James died in 1977 in Sheridan, Indiana. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Indiana and Michigan.
