Description
Stephen Coert van Voorhees (1600-1684) emigrated from the Netherlands with his family and settled on Long Island. Descendants listed migrated to New Jersey, from there to Pennsylvania and Virginia and then on to Kentucky. Their descendants lived in Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and elsewhere. Record especially covers some descendants of Francis Vories (b. 1766), the author's grandfather. The surname is spelled Vories and Voorhees. .

Steven Coerte VanVoorhees was born in about 1599 in Hees, Drenthe, Netherlands. He married Aaltjen Wessels in about 1625 and they had four children. He married Willempie Roelofse Seubering in about 1649 and they had six children. They emigrated in 1660 and settled in Amersfort, New York. Steven died in 1684 in Flatlands, New York. Abraham Voorhees or Voreis, was baptized 11 October 1772, possibly in Conewago, Pennsylvania or Berkeley County, Virginia. His parents were Peter Voorhees and Sophia Vanderbogert. He married Elizabeth Downey in about 1793, probably in Mercer County, Kentucky. They had fourteen children. Abraham died 8 May 1860 in Marshall County, Indiana. Includes variant spellings Voris, Vories and Voorhis.
