Card manifests of persons entering the United States through the port of Detroit, Michigan. Includes a few records of persons entering at Port Huron, Sault St. Marie, and other Michigan ports. Cards are arranged in alphabetical order.

Some passports from 1817 to 1834 were found among the emergency and special passports applications. These passports have been included in chronological order with this record.

Information is taken from customs lists.

Entries are arranged chronologically by year, next by vessel line or group of vessel lines, thereunder chronologically by date of vessel arrival, and lastly in rough alphabetical order by initial letter of passenger's surname.

The original records were microfilmed in the 1950s and were destroyed after filming. Some index cards were not microfilmed. See pages 4-5 of the introductory material to find the soundex codes on those cards not microfilmed. The original records were filmed by the INS in August-October 1956 and then destroyed. The microfilms were later transferred to the National Archives.
