Description
Reports of reunions held among the Bassett descendants who came mainly from England, Ireland, and France. Immigrant ancestors include: William Bassett of Plymouth, Massachusetts, who arrived on the Fortune in 1621; William Bassett of Lynn, Massachusetts, who arrived on the Abigail in 1635; Thomas Bassett of Fairfield, Connecticut, who arrived on the Christian in 1635; William Bassett (d. 1684) of New Haven, Connecticut, who arrived in 1635; and John Bassett (d. 1652) who settled in 1643/1643, at New Haven, Connecticut. In addition to the New England Bassetts, many Southern Bassetts descend from Thomas Bassett of Virginia, who arrived on the Truelove in 1635, or from Francis Bassett, who first appears in records in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina in 1772 and later settled in Barnwell County, South Carolina. Other descendants also lived in Australia, New Zealand, and in Iowa, Michigan, New England, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere.
